Man dies in Aberdeenshire crash Two more die on north east roads
(about 4 hours later)
A man in his 20s has been killed in a car crash in rural Aberdeenshire. A 23-year-old man has been killed after his car crashed into a tree in rural Aberdeenshire.
Grampian Police said just one car was involved in the accident on the B994 Kemnay to Kintore road in the early hours of Sunday morning. Grampian Police said his Audi A3 was the only vehicle involved in the crash on the B994 Kemnay to Kintore road.
The road has been closed by police investigating the accident, which happened at 0400 BST. The road was closed for almost 10 hours following the crash, which happened at 0400 BST.
Police said the circumstances were not clear, and the road closure would be in place for some time to allow specialist officers to investigate. Police also confirmed that Steven McArthur, 30, the driver of a car involved in an accident in Lossiemouth on Saturday, had died in hospital.
Mr McArthur's Fiat Punto had left the road at the town's Stotfield Road at about 0100 BST and hit Jennifer Lovell, 31, who also died. Both Mr McArthur and Ms Lovell were from the town.
'Challenging weekend'
Grampian Police have appealed for witnesses to both accidents to come forward.
Speaking after the crash in Kemnay, Insp Ewan Innes said: "Yet again we find ourselves having to deal with another fatality on the north east roads, and our sympathies go out to the family and friends of those involved.
"It is too early to know what has happened here and our enquiries will continue for several days. This has proved to be a very challenging weekend and once more we have to plead with motorists to concentrate and drive with care at all times."
The latest incidents bring the death toll on Scotland's roads from Friday to Sunday to eight.
