Man is charged over stab murder

A 29-year-old man has been charged with the murder of an 81-year-old man who died following a stabbing incident at a house in Nottingham. William Barnard, of Stapleford, has also been charged with the attempted murder of an 83-year-old woman at the same address. Police began a murder inquiry after officers were called to Thorpe Close, Stapleford, at 1915 BST on Friday. John McGrath was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. His widow, Mabel, sustained serious injuries in the attack and remains in a stable condition in hospital, police said. Results of a post-mortem examination revealed Mr McGrath died as a result of a stab wound. Mr Bernard is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Monday. |
