More than 5,000 non-domestic customers have been overcharged by Northern Ireland Water, it has emerged. Northern Ireland Water has begun contacting thousands of non-domestic customers who were overcharged.
Businesses, farms, schools, charities and churches have been overcharged by as much as £4,000. Over 5,000 businesses, farms, schools, charities or churches paid too much - some by as much as £4,000 in a mistake discovered late last year.
About 5,400 non-domestic customers paid more than they should have, while a further 2,400 have not been charged enough. A further mistake 2,400 customers may have been undercharged - they will only have to pay back half of what they owe.
