A motorist who tried to frighten his passengers by driving at speeds of up to 110 mph has been found guilty of causing his daughter's death. Edward Goddard, 41, who was angry at being called out late, drove his Ford Scorpio at bollards, but lost control. Kaylee Goddard, 20, a mother-of-two, was thrown from the car. Goddard, from Llanmartin, Newport, was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving at Newport Crown Court and told that he faces a jail sentence. The jury was told that Goddard had been angry at being called out late to pick up his daughter with her friends in April 2008. It doesn't matter about the outcome, we have lost our beloved Kaylee Parents, Edward and Paula Goddard The court heard he pretended to drive at bollards at high speed, but hit one of the bollards when he lost control of the car. The vehicle skidded in to a lamppost, before rolling over several times and coming to rest on its roof. Mother-of-two Kaylee Goddard was not wearing a seat belt and was flung from the car, suffering catastrophic head injuries. 'Caring mother' Goddard himself suffered head injuries and a significant spine injury and awoke with no memory of the accident. Goddard's wife Paula shrieked as the verdict was read out and she was led from the court sobbing. Judge Roderick Denyer adjourned the case for pre-sentence reports but warned Goddard he was facing a custodial sentence. In a statement from both Goddard and his wife, the parents said: "It doesn't matter about the outcome, we have lost our beloved Kaylee, nothing will change that she will always be in our hearts and thoughts." Luke Gray, the partner of Kaylee Goddard, said: "This result won't bring the loving and caring mother, partner and friend we all knew back to us. "She will be greatly missed and loved forever by her friends, partner and especially our children Courtney-Leigh and Dylan Gray." |
