India reports swine flu fatality

Health officials in India say a fourteen-year-old girl has become the first person in the country to die of swine flu.

An Indian health ministry official said the student who had tested positive for the disease died in a hospital in the western city of Pune.

Indian media reports said there were more than 500 confirmed cases of the H1N1 flu strain across the country.

The virus is thought to have killed almost 800 people around the world.
