Broadway in west Belfast is expected to remain closed for most of Wednesday due to concerns over the stability of a derelict building damaged by a fire.

It is not yet known how the blaze on Tuesday evening started.

Nurses living in Broadway Towers had to leave their flats when the fire broke out at the nearby derelict building.

The Royal Victoria Hospital is advising patients to use the Millhouse junction off the Westlink to reach the hospital from the Grosvenor Road junction.

Broadway was closed to traffic at the Falls Road and Iveagh Street on Tuesday while around 70 firefighters fought the blaze.

District commander John Langtry said the fire was well alight when crews arrived.

Engineers are due to assess the derelict building on Wednesday.
