One person was reportedly seen firing a gun in the street, police said. No arrests have been made. Acting Ch Insp Malcolm Noone said officers asked a man on a cycle at Coin Street to stop. But as they approached him he ran off into Blackfrairs Street.
An officer has suffered a thigh injury during the incident. It is not clear whether the injury resulted from the shooting, police said. As two officers gave chase they were fired upon and the man fled from the scene. Both the officers suffered injuries.
London Ambulance Service (LAS) spokesman said the police officer and a second man was taken to hospital. 'Dumped bike'
A police spokesman said: "Officers were called to reports of shots fired at The Cut, SE1, at 1502 BST. One suffered a minor injury as a result of diving to escape the shots, Mr Noone said. The other officer suffered a thigh injury during the incident.
Mr Noone said: "As the officers approached this male, he dumped the pedal cycle and ran off into Blackfriars Street.
"As the officers ran into Blackfriars Street they were fired upon and the man ran off."

"Local officers and firearms officers attended. There have been no arrests. The suspect is believed to be black, he said.
