Version 0 of 1.

An influential group within the Conservative Party has forfeited a donation of £2,000.

The Conservative Christian Fellowship, which is based within Conservative Campaign Headquarters, accepted the donation in December 2008.

The donation broke the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000, the Electoral Commission said.

This was because the donor, Lady Baker, was not registered on the UK electoral register when she gave the money.

The Conservative Christian Fellowship volunteered to forfeit the money. The Commission said it would not be taking legal action.

The donation will be paid into the Consolidated Fund - the Government's bank account at the Bank of England.

The Conservative Christian Fellowship was founded in 1990 by the Conservative MP, David Burrowes and the prominent Conservative blogger, Tim Montgomerie, when they were students at Exeter University.
