German TV hunt nets 'paedophile'

German officials say a man who filmed himself having sex with children has handed himself in after footage of him was aired on national television.

Authorities broadcast videos the suspect had made, which clearly showed his face, while the faces of his child victims were blacked out.

The man is suspected of sexually and, occasionally, violently abusing boys as young as five years old.

He posted more than 40 videos of the acts on the internet, prosecutors say.

The suspect will be charged with sexual abuse and distribution of child pornography, said state prosecutors in the central German town of Giessen, without disclosing further details.

The investigation continues.

Police say they decided to release video of the man for broadcast on TV and the internet in order to prevent him abusing new victims.

The man gave himself up less than 24 hours after the footage of him was shown, police said.
