Grief for police chief's daughter

The daughter of Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson has paid tribute to her boyfriend who was killed in a road crash in Manchester.

Harry Wilmers, 25, a mental health support worker, died on Thursday after colliding with a truck outside the Toll Gate Inn in Old Trafford at 1250 BST.

The cyclist was taken to hospital but died a short time later, police said.

Rebecca Stephenson, from Chorlton-cum-Hardy, said "a more special person, nobody could have hoped to meet".

She added: "Harry was a much-loved son, brother, partner and friend.

"His impact on everyone was profound and positive, his intelligence incredible and his love all-encompassing."

It is believed Sir Paul, who was appointed the UK's top police officer in January, has returned home to the north west of England to comfort his daughter and be with his family.

Police are continuing to appeal for information about the collision.

The 30-year-old truck driver was not injured in the crash.
