Sailors have 'boatle' for channel
http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/england/london/8191470.stm Version 0 of 1. Two carpenters are preparing to cross the channel for charity in a boat made from plastic bottles. Marcel Syron, 31, and Cameron Holm, 28, will paddle across the English Channel to raise at least £1,000 for the Mental Health Foundation. The London-based New Zealanders will make the crossing on 2 September after training on Regent's Canal, Camden, in what they have dubbed their "Boatle". The craft is made from 600 plastic bottles, some expanding foam and wood. Mr Syron, who lives in Hackney, and Mr Holm, from Kilburn, estimate it will take about 10 hours to make the crossing, giving them £100 or more for the Mental Health Foundation for each hour of pain. The boat has been tried out on the canals of London and made its first appearance on the high seas off Brighton Beach. |
