Police are investigating allegations of a major fraud at a popular caravan park on the Moray Firth, with some customers claiming to have lost up to £10,000. It is understood a number of caravans at Silver Sands, in Lossiemouth, were sold several times over to customers. The alleged fraud emerged when a number of different holiday makers began claiming ownership of the same caravan. Park owner Green Parcs has met those affected. Police have questioned two people who have not been charged. It is alleged some customers bought caravans without the proper paperwork, which were then sold on without their knowledge. It's not been a very good start to the holiday Julie CunninghamCaravan park resident The Cunningham family, from Falkirk, arrived at the site on Friday. Julie Cunningham said: "We've had five people turning up at our door, saying it's their caravan. "The last one was this morning, saying they were going to change the locks so we went up to the management, who are not willing to do anything regarding this. Ms Cunningham added: "I'm here with my two kids and my mum who doesn't keep very well, so it's been quite upsetting for the lot of us not knowing if there's somebody going to come to the door and change the locks and put our stuff out. "It's not been a very good start to the holiday." Green Parcs director Birgu Ghelani said the company was trying to help those affected. He said: "Last week we found out there were some discrepancies in ownership and, as soon as these discrepancies were discovered, we reported the matter to the police and we flew up to Scotland straight away. "We're making sure that nobody is evicted, we're making sure that people remain in their caravans and that the status quo is maintained." Grampian Police said inquiries were at an early stage. |
