News agency reports say the death took place on Saturday at the coastal resort of Chia, in the south-west of the Italian Mediterranean island. Italian police said the boy came from Reading, Berkhire, and fell at the Chia Laguna Resort in the south-west of the Mediterranean island on Saturday.
The boy reportedly died after being flown to hospital in the island's capital, Cagliari. He was taken to hospital in the island's capital, Cagliari, where he was pronounced dead.
Italian police have been quoted as saying that he came from Reading, in Berkshire. Officers said the child's parents were getting changed when he fell from the first floor.
A spokesman said: "They were changing clothes and the child was alone.
"He walked onto the balcony and the room was on the first floor.
"They do not know what happened but the child fell down from the balcony."
The spokesman said police were investigating the little boy's death, but no arrests had been made.
