The attack took place in Charsada district, near Peshawar city. Police said the bomb was planted in a vehicle. The attack took place in Shabqadar, a town near the border with the Mohmand tribal region 60km (37 miles) north-east of Peshawar.
Mohmand is controlled by Taliban militants and there have recently been clashes with Pakistani security forces.

"A car drove up to a fuel station at 12 noon today," a local police official told the BBC Urdu service.
"It blew up minutes later as it was being filled with diesel."
"We can confirm that six people have been killed and eight injured."
"The injured have been shifted to a local hospital."
Police also told the BBC that it was too early to say if it was a suicide bombing.
"We will have to investigate and see if the vehicle was just carrying explosives, or if it was a car suicide bomb."
The BBC's Syed Shoaib Hasan says that Shabqadar's proximity to Mohmand means that it has often been the scene of suicide attacks, mostly on military targets.

"Six people were killed and eight injured in the explosion. It was a passenger vehicle... the bomb was planted in a pick-up," news agency AFP quoted district police chief Mohammad Riaz Khan as saying.
The dead included two women and at least two children, police said.
Since 2001, the tribal region has been a haven for militants blamed for surging violence in both Pakistan and Afghanistan.
