A motorbike racer who was involved in a high speed crash at the North West 200 earlier this year has said his recovery has been "miraculous".

John Anderton, who is 29 and from Antrim, spent almost five weeks in a coma after the accident in May.

He was critically injured during a practice session for the North West.

Speaking publicly for the first time about what happened, Mr Anderton said the support he received had helped motivate him.

"The recovery I've made is miraculous really, only the leg's the problem now, it's the only thing that's really holding me back," Mr Anderton said.

"So I've made a good recovery and it's just down to everybody supporting me and keeping me focused on what I had to do.

"Shona, my mum and dad and the whole family have been there for me from day one."
