Loyalist Mahood declared bankrupt

High-profile north Belfast loyalist Jackie Mahood has been declared bankrupt, it has emerged.

Mahood, who has convictions for possession of a firearm and wounding, had been running a taxi firm.

The premises and cars used by its drivers have been repeatedly attacked by rival loyalists.

Mahood, of Ainsworth Avenue, is taking legal action against the government for refusing to compensate him for damage caused to his business.

An official bankruptcy notice was published on Friday.

When contacted by BBC News, Mahood, who was shot and seriously injured in an attack in 1997, said he had "no comment" to make.
