A 22-year-old man murdered a gang member by stabbing him through the heart in Wolverhampton city centre, a court has heard. Jamie Price, the son of musician Goldie, is alleged to have killed Marlon Morris during trouble between two gangs on Broad Street. Mr Morris, aged 21, was pronounced dead in hospital on 24 August last year. Price, of Long Ley, Heath Town, Wolverhampton, denies murdering Mr Morris by stabbing him four times. Prosecutor William Coker QC told Wolverhampton Crown Court that Price ran off after the killing and later told a friend he had "done something bad". He said Mr Morris, whose left arm was severely disabled due to a motorcycle accident, was regarded as a member of a gang from Pendeford, Wolverhampton. Night out Mr Coker told the jury: "This defendant, Jamie Price, known also as Goldie, was a member of another gang who called themselves the Fire Town Gang. "When the defendant was interviewed after his arrest he said that before that Sunday - the 24th of August - there had been tension building up between these two groups of young men." The court heard that Mr Morris and several friends were in the city centre on a night out, travelling in a Volkswagen Bora taxi. Price was out with other men, who had access to a Renault Clio. Shortly before Mr Morris was injured, CCTV cameras captured a group of men pursuing a friend of Price, who got into the Clio. Price is alleged to have then stabbed Mr Morris once in the back and three times in the front of his body, penetrating both his heart and liver. Following the stabbing, Mr Morris was still conscious and able to talk and asked a friend to take him to Wolverhampton's New Cross Hospital. The trial was adjourned until Thursday. |
