Workers at John Lennon Airport in Liverpool are to strike indefinitely if a deal is not reached during last minute talks.

Baggage handlers and other ground staff, employed by Servisair, are threatening to walk out at 0400 BST on Thursday over plans to cut 27 jobs.

The strike could involve up to 150 employees, the GMB union has said.

A Servisair spokesman said that it would be "business as usual" despite the walk-out.

He added: "Robust contingency plans that are already in place will mean that passengers flying with those airlines who use Servisair at Liverpool will not be inconvenienced during this dispute."

Talks between the company and their staff will continue during the strike, he confirmed.

Union member Eddie Parker said he hoped a resolution could be reached.

The strike would hit summer travellers going abroad on flights with Ryanair, KLM, Wizzair, Flybe and Thomson.
