South Wales Police investigating the sexual assault of a teenage girl near a rugby club's playing fields have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

They also want to trace a woman who found the victim in a distressed state in the toilets of Briton Ferry Rugby Club after the attack on Friday, 7 Aug.

The suspect is described as white, aged 18 to 25, 5ft 8in, and who was wearing jeans and a dark T-shirt.

Detectives said they wanted to trace anyone who was at the club that night.

The process was being carried out for the purpose of eliminating potential witnesses, they added.

The woman who found the victim went to get help and has not been traced.

Anyone who saw people on or near the Briton Ferry rugby pitch between 2230 and 2320 BST on the night is also urged to come forward.

In addition, police are seeking anyone who saw a disturbance between a male and a female in the area.

The response to our previous appeals in the media has been disappointing Det Insp Jason Davies

Det Insp Jason Davies of Neath Port Talbot CID said they conducted a witness trawl in the Briton Ferry area on Friday night.

Posters and leaflets were also distributed in the area.

"The response to our previous appeals in the media has been disappointing," said Det Insp Davies.

"We need to hear from anyone who was in the club on the night on Friday, 7 August or anyone with any information about this incident.

"They could hold information which may seem insignificant to them but could be of assistance to the investigation team.

"The victim had attended a house music party at the rugby club on the night and we are keen to trace anyone who attended this event to come forward.

"This process is being carried out for the purpose of eliminating potential witnesses."

Anyone with information should contact police on 01792 456999 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
