Man remanded over player stabbing Footballer's career 'in balance'

A 25-year-old man has been remanded in custody over an attack in Bedfordshire in which West Ham footballer Calum Davenport was stabbed in the legs. Premier League footballer Calum Davenport's career could be under threat after he was stabbed in the legs, a court was told.
Worrell Whitehurst, of Finsley Walk, Derby, was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and driving while disqualified. The West Ham player, 26, is in a stable condition in intensive care following the attack at his mother's home in Kempston, Bedfordshire, on Saturday.
Mr Whitehurst is also accused of causing actual bodily harm to the player's mother Kim Stupple, 49. Worrell Whitehurst, his sister's boyfriend, is charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
The attack took place early on Saturday morning in Kempston. Magistrates in Bedford remanded Mr Whitehurst, from Derby, in custody.

Mr Whitehurst, of Finsley Walk, was arrested in Derby on Saturday after the attack at Ms Stupple's home.
He is due to appear at Luton Crown Court on 16 November.
