Three young boys have been arrested in connection with a large fire that swept through a disused mill in Lancashire.

The boys, aged 10, 11 and 14, were questioned after the fire caused extensive damage to the building in Moorgate Street, Blackburn, on Friday.

More than 50 firefighters were at the scene and 15 homes were evacuated.

Those arrested have been released on bail pending further inquiries. The cause of the fire is unknown, and police appealed for information.

Sgt Rob Anderson said: "While incidents like this are rare, I would like to reassure local residents that every effort is being made to determine the cause of this fire.

"I would like to remind people that deliberate and reckless acts of arson will not be tolerated."

There had been concerns that a number of children had become trapped in the fire, but crews searched the area and and all were accounted for.
