A 12-year-old boy has been airlifted to hospital after falling from a ridge on Skye when he was hit by a boulder. Northern Constabulary said the boy fell up to 100ft and suffered serious head injuries, on the south east ridge of Sgurr nan Gillean in the Cuillins. Stornoway coastguard helicopter flew him to the island's Broadford Hospital and he was then transferred to Glasgow's Southern General Hospital. Details of the boy, who is from Sussex, are not expected to be released. David Smith, watch manager at Stornoway Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre, said: "There are loose rocks and boulders on cliff faces and rock falls are not un-common." |
