Ex-mayor faces underwear charges

The former mayor of a Lancashire town has been accused of breaking into homes and stealing women's underwear, police have said. Ian Stafford, 58, who resigned as mayor of Preesall after his arrest in June, has been charged with three counts of burglary over the missing lingerie. Women in Preesall, Poulton-le-Fylde and Stalmine called in police after their underwear kept disappearing. Mr Stafford will appear before Wyre Magistrates' Court on 14 September. A Lancashire police spokesman said: "Ian Stafford has been charged with three counts of burglary in a dwelling in connection with incidents at addresses in Preesall, Poulton-le-Fylde and Stalmine between January 1 and June 26 2009." |
