A woman from Essex has died on a plane which was travelling from Morocco to Spain, the Foreign Office has revealed.

Paula Slah, from Chelmsford, fell ill on an Iberia flight from Tangiers to Madrid on Sunday.

The pilot decided to divert to Seville airport in Spain and radioed ahead for an ambulance.

The plane landed at Seville but Ms Slah, who was believed to be aged 40, was pronounced dead when a doctor came on board.

She is thought to have died just as the plane was coming in to land.

Members of Ms Slah's family have travelled out to Spain.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said today: "On 23 August a British national died on a flight from Morocco which was diverted.

"Next of kin have been informed and consular assistance is being provided for the family."
