Police have named a child who died after falling in a Manchester pond as an 11-year-old local boy.

Bolton Mountain Rescue team found Ross Carroll's body in the muddy waters by Barton embankment near the Trafford Centre on Tuesday night.

It is believed Ross, of Barton Lane, Salford, had been playing with three friends when he fell into the water.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Inquiries into the circumstances are continuing."
