Her driving instructor's wife, Petra Egan, said it was a "terrible thing" to happen and that her sympathies were with the victim's family.
She added: "My husband should be okay although very upset by it all.
"He has a neck injury which requires to get a metal cage to keep it still and he will be moved to a hospital in Glasgow.
"It is the first time he has been involved in an accident through his work."
