Shady Reed was knocked into the water by a wave as he stood with friends on the harbour wall last Friday at Porthcawl in south Wales. Despite rescue attempts, the teenager disappeared into the sea. South Wales Police said a body was recovered in the Porthcawl bay area at around 0600 BST on Friday. It has not yet been formally identified. The search for the boy was eventually called off almost 24 hours after the alarm was raised last week. A fisherman dialled 999 after he saw the boy washed off rocks near the harbour wall, known locally as the pier. Two lifeboatmen tried to swim out to him when he was about 100 yards from shore but he had disappeared when they arrived. Helicopters and lifeboat teams were involved in the search, co-ordinated by Swansea Coastguard. |
