Gang attacks man in city street

A man has been taken to hospital after he was assaulted by a number of people in north Belfast on Friday night.

The man, who is in his 30s, suffered head and leg injuries in the attack.

He was walking along the Deerpark Road close to Alliance Crescent when he was set upon. At least one of the attackers was armed with a bat.

The attack happened at about 2245 BST. Police said they are working to establish the circumstances and a motive for the incident.

They have appealed for witnesses to contact them.
