A driver whose car fell 50ft from a flyover and landed on its roof on a motorway had a "miraculous" escape, paramedics have said. Emergency crews were called to the M42, close to junction six in the West Midlands, at about 2010 BST on Sunday. The car had crashed through a barrier on the flyover and landed upside down on the southbound carriageway. The driver, who is aged in his 50s, had to be freed from his wrecked vehicle by fire crews. He did not suffer any serious injuries but was taken to Birmingham's Heartlands Hospital to be assessed. The crash happened near the junction for the National Exhibition Centre and Birmingham Airport - one of the busiest stretches of the M42. A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman described the man's escape as "miraculous". The spokesman said: "It is fortunate that the crash occurred when the traffic on the motorway was relatively light and no other vehicle crashed into the wreckage of the car." |
