A Jersey fisherman has been rescued by staff from a marina near the Elizabeth Castle breakwater.

The sailor raised the alarm at about 0930 BST, making a mayday call to say that he felt unwell.

The St Helier inshore lifeboat and Elizabeth Marina staff on board another boat went out to help him. He was found unconscious in his vessel's cabin.

The marina staff got on board and brought the boat back into St Helier harbour. The man was taken to hospital.

St Helier lifeboat staff said the man had come round by the time his boat was brought to shore from just outside the harbour entrance.

He managed to walk to an awaiting ambulance, they said.
