Version 0 of 1.

The row rumbles on over the release of the Lockerbie bomber and the UK government's role.

The Daily Mail's headline talks of "US fury", <a class="inlineText" href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1210485/Lockerbie-U-S-accuses-Britain-breaking-promise-bomber-jail-Brown-denies-double-dealing.html">with Britain being accused of reneging on a pledge</a> to keep Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi in jail.

The Independent warns against <a class="inlineText" href="http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brown-breaks-13day-silence-there-was-no-deal-with-libya-1780892.html">"the dangers of getting too close to Gaddafi's Libya".</a>

According to the Times, <a class="inlineText" href="http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/">the government's attempt to deny any deal</a> looks increasingly dishonest.

Finances

The Daily Express talks of a "mortgage price war" <a class="inlineText" href="http://www.express.co.uk/home">as Britain's biggest bank, HSBC</a> introduces its lowest interest rate yet at just under 2%.

An expert tells the paper that other banks will have to follow suit with competitive new deals.

Meanwhile, the Times says <a class="inlineText" href="http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/politics/article6819450.ece">the global financial rescue package agreed</a> at the G20 summit is unravelling.

It talks of a "breakdown of unity" among countries which are emerging from recession at different speeds.

Teachers' code

The Guardian says more than 10,000 signatures <a class="inlineText" href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2009/sep/02/teachers-slam-code-of-conduct">have been added to a petition opposing</a> a new "code of conduct" for teachers.

It was drawn up by the General Teaching Council for England.

The code requires teaching staff to uphold "public trust and confidence" in their profession, including during periods when not at work.

But many teachers argue it intrudes into their private lives and strips them of basic human rights.

Famous dad

An eight-year-old girl playing on the floor behind a sofa, <a class="inlineText" href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/barackobama/6128903/Obamas-captured-in-Kennedy-like-Oval-Office-photo.html">watching her dad busy at a desk,</a> is big news.

That's because the girl is called Sasha Obama, the room is called the Oval office and the dad at the desk is called Mr President.

The picture appears on the front of the Daily Telegraph, which like several papers, likens it to a 1963 photograph.

That showed little John Kennedy Junior playing under the same desk as his father, President Kennedy, worked.
