Cemetery search over dead babies New remains found in babies probe
(about 7 hours later)
Police have been searching a cemetery after the remains of three babies were found at a house on Merseyside. Remains thought to be those of a fourth infant have been found at a cemetery by police investigating the discovery of three other babies' bodies.
Officers were scouring St Helens Cemetery on Friday following the discovery of the bones at a property in nearby Harlow Close five days ago. Merseyside police said they discovered remains "believed to be human" at St Helens Cemetery on Friday.
Forensic tests are currently being carried out on the remains to determine the age and sex of the children. Officers said the find was made during searches of the cemetery, rather than by digging up an existing grave. They refused to explain why they were there.

1980s births
Ch Supt Chris Armitt said the cemetery remains would "form part of the investigation", but refused to be drawn on why officers searched the graveyard.
The officer, an area commander for St Helens, said in a statement: "A Home Office pathologist will carry out a post-mortem next week and this will establish if the remains are human.
"We cannot speculate as to the cause or circumstances of the deaths; any inappropriate supposition is likely to have a severe impact on the investigation and the family."
Forensic tests are taking place to find out the age and sex of the children whose remains were found in the property on Harlow Close, which is 3.7 miles (6km) from the cemetery.
Two women, aged 54 and 38, and a 26-year-old man have been arrested and bailed pending further inquiries. Two women, aged 54 and 38, and a 26-year-old man have been arrested and bailed pending further inquiries.
A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said: "The remains are believed to relate to births that occurred as far back as the mid 1980s." Police have previously said that the remains found at Harlow Road are believed to relate to births from as far back as the mid-1980s.
Det Supt Steve Naylor said: "This looks like being a complex investigation, and a lot of hard work needs to be done before we can ascertain what the full circumstances are surrounding this situation." Detectives have confirmed they are not looking for anybody else in connection with the investigation.
