The alert began last Tuesday. But it was Saturday before four or five families were moved from their homes and the area was cordoned off.
Local councillor Anthony Flynn said about 20 people had left their homes, but many farmers were also affected.
"The area sealed off is in both the north and south. As well as families who have been disrupted and moved out, it is affecting scores of others," he said.
Mr Flynn said farmers could not get access to their fields.
Police said the alert began last Tuesday, 1 September.
"The worry of some of the local people is that spotter planes and helicopters were out before they were even told about it," Mr Flynn said.
"I can understand why they are being careful, but I think local people should have known a lot sooner." |
