Anderson fears for medical jobs

Foyle assembly member Martina Anderson has said she fears for the future of 300 hi-tech jobs at a medical packaging company in Londonderry. Perfecseal has warned its operation at Campsie could be in doubt if plans to expand a neighbouring waste processing plant are approved. Ms Anderson has asked for a meeting with Environment Minister Edwin Poots to discuss the planning application. She said it was "unacceptable" that it had dragged on for so long. "Perfecseal have already halted recruitment while the situation remains unresolved and we now face the prospect of losing 300 jobs from a city which is still reeling from other major redundancies over recent weeks." She said a solution which can maintain the sterile integrity of Perfecseal while accommodating the expansion plans of the waste firm must be found. Glassdon Ltd, which made the application, has said any risk to Perfecseal's sterile integrity was "negligible". |
