Crew manager Stuart Forrester, one of the first on scene, told BBC Radio Cumbria it was one of the more "out of the ordinary" calls his team had attended.
He said the puppy had been playing in the garden and tried to get back into the house, but the only entrance she could find was the hole.

"She decided to investigate if she could fit her whole body through and unfortunately it didn't go well for her," he said.
"We were greeted by a young lad and he just pointed to the wall, and there appeared behind a little bookstand was Teale with just her head poking through.
"Teale knew we were there to help her, she was very calm and she just looked at us with the sad puppy dog eyes."
Firefighters devised a plan how to make the hole bigger and used a small saw and plyers to widen it by a couple of centimetres to help released the dog.
"Teale came bounding back through from the garden and jumped in us all and said, 'Thank you'," Mr Forrester added.
