Welcome to The Buzz, our weekly round up of how the stories Newsnight reports are being talked about in the blogosphere, twitterverse and other social media.

TERRY WOGAN IS OFF AND CHRIS EVANS IS IN

In the wake of the news that Terry Wogan is quitting his popular breakfast show and will be replaced by Chris Evans, Gavin Esler was joined by Matthew Bannister, former controller of BBC Radio, and Nick Ferrari from LBC to debate if Radio 2 is <a class="bodl" href="/2/hi/programmes/newsnight/8243717.stm">sufficiently distinctive from its commercial competitors.</a>

As the news of Terry's decision broke, listeners debated his departure on the <a class="bodl" href="http://www.digitalspy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1123287">Digital Spy Forums.</a>

<a class="bodl" href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/wake-up-to-wogan/what-is-a-tog/">Togs,</a> otherwise known as Terry Wogan's Old Geezers or Gals, are devastated that Terry is to retire.

Many have been finding comfort from others on the Togs <a class="bodl" href="http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=547527390">official Facebook page.</a>

However, the Buzz is pretty confident that this, is in fact <a class="bodl" href="http://twitter.com/OriginalTog">not the real Terry Wogan on Twitter.</a>

Chris Evans vowed on his blog that <a class="bodl" href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/chrisevans/2009/09/day_one_of_the_countdown_to_de.shtml">"the team and I will deliver a first rate show that all the family can listen to together"</a> .

But his responses have been interpreted by <a class="bodl" href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/celebritynews/6159448/Chris-Evans-attacks-predictable-Sir-Terry-Wogan-fans-amid-mounting-criticism.html"> the papers</a> as Chris Evans attacking Terry's fans.

THE RISE OF ISRAEL'S MILITARY RABBIS

Newsnight had a special report this week from Katya Adler in Israel on the rise of Israel's military rabbis.

There was a huge online reaction after Newsnight's broadcast.

Spectator columnist, Melanie Phillips, was <a class="bodl" href="http://www.spectator.co.uk/melaniephillips/5315626/bbc-newsnight-plumbs-new-depths-of-bigotry.thtml">less than impressed by the report.</a>

While Muslim Public Affairs Committee's blog says the film was <a class="bodl" href="http://www.mpacuk.org/story/090909/israel-admits-%E2%80%98jewish-jihad%E2%80%99-against-islam.html">perhaps as critical a piece of journalism I have seen the Beeb do on the Israelis.</a>

WORLDmag.com's blog piece <a class="bodl" href="http://online.worldmag.com/2009/09/07/the-israeli-military-and-god/">The Israeli Military and God</a> says "The BBC's piece on the subject is a little scattershot, but highlights a few controversies over 'holy war' rhetoric in the last year".

Harry's Place post - <a class="bodl" href="http://www.hurryupharry.org/2009/09/08/you-cant-get-away-with-this-in-a-secular-state/">You Can't Get Away With This In a Secular State,</a> reckons there is a line, between appropriate and inappropriate conduct for a clergyman in a war, and that it is pretty clear that that line is being crossed, at least in some units.

IS VETTING PARENTS NECESSARY?

So, if you're a mum or dad, and drive your kids to sports clubs, <a class="bodl" href="/2/hi/uk_news/8249020.stm">would you be happy to go through a vetting process?</a>

That is the new measure from the Home Office. The rules will come into force from next month in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. A separate, but aligned scheme, is being set up in Scotland, to be introduced next year.

Meanwhile, on the off topic forum on House Price Crash Forum readers debate whether this is proof we are <a class="bodl" href="http://www.housepricecrash.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=125136&st=15&start=15"> in a totalitarian state.</a>

The Anglo-Saxon Foundation talk about whether <a class="bodl" href="http://www.uepengland.com/bbs/index.php/topic/14509-checks-on-childrens-club-drivers/">this move would stop paedophiles.</a> While Youreable focuses on the issue and importance of <a class="bodl" href="http://www.youreable.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=1065461">CRB checks.</a>
