Police said the 17-year-old youth died in hospital after the attack near the World's End pub in Clouds Hill Road in the St George area at 0120 BST. | |
An eyewitness told the BBC up to 30 young men were involved in the incident, which left another man needing treatment for stab wounds. | |
Three men have been arrested, including the injured man, who is aged 23. | |
'Tragic incident' | |
He has since been released from hospital and is in police custody. | |
Two other men, aged 18 and 20, were also being questioned. | |
Insp Julie Bowle, of Avon and Somerset Police, said: "A young man needlessly lost in life in this tragic incident. Our thoughts and condolences are with the family at this very difficult time. | |
"There are a number of lines of enquiry that the investigation team are perusing to establish the motive behind this incident. It is imperative that we find out exactly what happened last night." | |
Avon and Somerset police said "a number of people" were outside the pub between 0030 and 0130 BST , and they were keen to speak to all of them. | |
Insp Bowle added: "I would appeal to anyone who has any information to come forward and contact us. | |
"We would rather have the same piece of information 10 times over than not at all. | |
"We have a number of officers working on this investigation and a designated incident room has been set up for anyone who may have information that could help." | |
