Avon and Somerset police said "a number of people" were outside the pub between 0030 and 0130 BST , and they were keen to speak to all of them.
Insp Bowle added: "I would appeal to anyone who has any information to come forward and contact us.
"We would rather have the same piece of information 10 times over than not at all.
"We have a number of officers working on this investigation and a designated incident room has been set up for anyone who may have information that could help."
