A teenager is due to appear at Newry Youth Court charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing death. A teenager charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing death has been released on bail.
The 17-year-old is also charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily injury, and driving while unfit through drink or drugs. The 17-year-old, who cannot be named, appeared at Newry Youth Court.
The charges relate to an accident on the Dublin Road near Newry last October. He was charged with causing the death of Stephen Shields, 44, from Newry and Gerard Fearon, 26, Dromintee, who died in a crash near Newry last October.
Stephen Shields, 44, from Newry and Gerard Fearon, 26, from Dromintee died in the accident. The youth was also charged with dangerous driving causing grievous bodily injury, and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.
A police officer told the court he believed he could connect the accused with the offences.
Magistrate Paul Copeland released the defendant to reappear on 16 March.
