Chemical alert death unexplained Caustic soda sparked evacuation
(about 5 hours later)
An inquiry is continuing following the death of a man and the discovery of a chemical substance at his home, prompting the evacuation of a street. A chemical which sparked an evacuation near the home of a man who died, has been identified as caustic soda.
Officers were called to Aquarium Street, Rhyl, by paramedics who had taken the man to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan, where he later died. Police say the chemical did not play a part in the man's death, the cause of which has been deferred pending the results of toxicology tests.
The man was in his 20s. The cause of death has yet to be established, and a post-mortem examination is due. The man, in his 20s, was taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd where he died, and police evacuated Aquarium Street in Rhyl, Denbighshire, on Sunday.
The street was evacuated for a number of hours on Sunday afternoon. North Wales Police said his death was not suspicious.
Police said residents had returned to their homes by 1500 BST. A post mortem examination has taken place.
The man was discovered by paramedics who then alerted police and the street was evacuated for several hours.
