El Dorado County Superior Court Judge Douglas Phimister said he had set Mr Garrido's bail at a high level because of the serious nature of the charges, the injuries to the victim and the fact that Mr Garrido was on parole at the time of the alleged crime.
Ms Dugard, now 29, had allegedly been kept as a prisoner since 1991 in a compound behind the Garrido home in Antioch, east of San Francisco.
