Version 0 of 1.

The family of a British tourist who died in a fall from the top floor of a Mexican hotel said they are "deeply shocked and upset" at his death.

Adrian Fletcher, 34, from Bolton, was seen having a "forceful argument" with his girlfriend shortly before his death at the resort, said Mexican police.

The pair were at the Riu Cancun hotel as part of a wedding party.

His brother, Michael Fletcher, said the family still had no information about the incident.

In a statement, he said: "We have no details whatsoever about Adrian's tragic death.

"The family is deeply shocked and upset by this."

'Terrible tragedy'

Mr Fletcher fell from the top floor of the 14-storey, five-star hotel on Thursday afternoon.

The 34-year-old had flown from Manchester Airport to Cancun, where he had been part of a wedding party of 22 people.

His girlfriend of nine years is being questioned as a witness.

A spokeswoman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said Mexican police were carrying out an investigation into what happened.

She said: "Our consular staff are working very hard on the ground in Mexico.

"This is a really terrible tragedy and we just hope in the next few days, we can try to establish what did happen.

"Obviously as soon as we know anything, the family will be informed about it immediately."

Mr Fletcher's body has been recovered by state prosecutors and a post-mortem examination is likely to take place.
