Actor Simon Pegg has joined Coldplay on stage at Wembley Stadium on Friday night at the first of two London gigs on their world tour.

Shaun of the Dead actor Pegg played the harmonica as Coldplay performed their hit Trouble.

Front-man Chris Martin then led the crowd in a mass singalong of the now classic Yellow.

The show featured lasers, pyrotechnics and smoke and was supported by Girls Aloud, Jay-z and White Lies.

Martin said to the crowd: "We'll do the end of Yellow as a thank you to Cheryl [Cole] and the girls who performed this afternoon."

A video was then shown of X Factor judge Simon Cowell saying: "That is a complete and utter nightmare.

"I don't care what you are trying to do, it was just atrocious."

Martin encouraged the 60,000-strong crowd to sing again, followed by another clip of Cowell, this time saying: "I thought that was bloody fantastic."

Chris Martin and his band have been touring since last year

Martin addressed the band's fans again.

"We've been around the world, played over a 150 concerts and playing in London, in our own home town, is pretty special.

"It's nice to know we have a home to go to," he said.

The gig closed with The Scientist.

Friday's concert was the first of the band's final two dates of their tour.
