Ex-minister's son on drugs charge

The 21-year-old son of former Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt has been charged with possession of cocaine.

Nicholas Hewitt Birtles, a sales representative, of Rochester Square, north London, was charged over the Class A drug possession on Sunday.

Police arrested him and another person on Saturday evening in Camden Square in north London.

Mr Hewitt Birtles, who has been bailed, will appear before Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on 30 September.

The man arrested with Mr Hewitt Birtles was bailed until 6 November.

In June Ms Hewitt, the Labour MP for Leicester West who was a minister during Tony Blair's tenure as prime minister, said she would stand down as an MP at the next election.
