Margaret Hodge has returned to the government, one of two new ministerial appointments by Gordon Brown.

The former tourism minister has been on compassionate leave looking after her husband since October 2008.

Sir Henry Hodge died in June and Mrs Hodge has now resumed her old position, the government has announced.

Barbara Follett, who replaced her as tourism minister, moves to a junior ministerial role at the Department for Communities and Local Government.
