Hundreds of people have gathered for the funeral of an apprentice jockey who died in a suspected arson attack.

Jan Wilson, 19, from Forfar, in Angus, was killed along with jockey Jamie Kyne when fire engulfed a flat in Norton, North Yorkshire, on 5 September.

They were among six people in the flats in Buckrose Court when the fire broke out at about 0215 BST.

More than 250 people attended the funeral service in Lowson Memorial Parish Church in Forfar.

A jockey's helmet was placed on Ms Wilson's coffin at the front of the church as mourners arrived.

Members of the racing fraternity paid their respects to 18-year-old Jamie Kyne at St Leonard and St Mary's Roman Catholic church in Malton, North Yorkshire, last week.

North Yorkshire Police have renewed their appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time of the fire to come forward.

They have released CCTV images of four people who may have witnessed the incident.

Police said one person had come forward but they still wanted to trace the others.

A 37-year-old man has been arrested and released on bail in connection with the incident.

A fund set up in the memory of the jockeys has so far raised £39,000, which will be used to fund a permanent tribute.
