A man and a woman have been arrested in County Tyrone by police investigating dissident republican activity. The man was detained in the Dungannon area on Thursday and is being questioned at the serious crime suite in Antrim. Earlier on Thursday a woman was arrested in the same area by officers from the PSNI's Serious Crime Branch. It follows the arrest of two men during searches in Dungannon on Tuesday. One has been released unconditionally. The second man, 33, remains in custody and detectives have been granted more time to question him. On Friday, the PSNI launched Operation Descent aimed at disrupting potential dissident republican activity. The police said it would result in more police patrols and checkpoints. New Chief Constable Matt Baggott took over the reins of the PSNI on Tuesday. It is understood senior police officers feared dissident republicans would attempt to mark his arrival with an attack. |
