A suicide bomber has killed at least four people in Pakistan by detonating his vehicle outside a police station in the north-western town of Bannu. Reports say the police building and several neighbouring houses collapsed in the blast. A number of people are thought to be trapped in the rubble. Bannu is close to the tribal region of North Waziristan, a Taliban stronghold. The attack comes a day after 12 suspected militants died in a US missile strike in North Waziristan. The attack took place on the outskirts of Bannu, with at least two of the dead believed to be policemen, reports quote a local police official as saying. At least 20 houses and shops were damaged in the blast, the police official added. Estimates as to the numbers injured in the attack range from 30 to 40 people, reports say. On Friday, the new leader of the Pakistan Taliban, Hakimullah Mehsud, warned of suicide attacks if the government acted against them. |
