Scottish footballer David Weir has been robbed by four men who broke into his luxury home in Cheshire.

Mr Weir, 36, surprised the gang when he returned to his home in Lymm at about 1845 GMT on Thursday with three of his four children, who became distressed.

The footballer, who signed to Rangers from Everton last month, was threatened and the thieves demanded cash, jewellery and his car keys.

They then fled in a Mini Cooper car and police have launched an investigation.

The Scottish International defender agreed an early release from Everton in January, allowing him to transfer to the Glasgow club.
