(about 2 hours later)
One man has been killed and another has been left seriously injured in a crash on an Aberdeenshire road. A man has been killed and another seriously injured in a crash between a car and a van on an Aberdeenshire road.
A car was reported to have hit a telegraph pole on the B999 near Haddo House. The crash also involved a van. Grampian Police said the 75-year-old driver of a Vauxhall Corsa was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision.
An air ambulance helicopter called to the accident, which happened at about 1420 BST, took a man to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with "serious" injuries. The driver of a Transit van also involved in the crash was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
The road was shut at the unclassified road leading to Haddo House, south from the A920 and heading north at the B999. The accident happened at about 1420 BST on the B999 road between Tarves and Pitmedden.
A third person involved, a woman, was believed to have escaped serious injury. A female passenger in the Corsa was taken to Aberdeen Royal by ambulance, but her injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
Insp Mike McDonald said: "Our sympathies are with the family of the man who unfortunately died as a result of this collision.
"We are appealing for any driver who was in the area at the time of the incident and who may have seen something which could help our inquiry to contact us."
The road was closed for an investigation to be carried out, and traffic was diverted via Ellon.
