A major police operation has been launched in North Yorkshire after two men fled from the scene of a crash which left a 10-year-old boy dead. | |
The boy was crossing Holgate Road in York at 2020 BST on Saturday when he was hit by a blue Ford Transit van. | |
The two occupants of the van, described as white males in their late teens or early 20s, stopped at the scene but then ran away leaving the van. | |
The boy was taken to York District Hospital where he was pronounced dead. | |
He has not been named but his family have been informed. Police said the boy was local to the area. | |
A police helicopter is in use over the city to trace the men. | |
The collision occurred near Holgate Bridge, known locally as the Iron Bridge. The road around this area remains closed. |
